Definition and explanation
In most cases, collectors and appraisers distinguish between “antique” and “vintage” by the age of the item. Most consider any item over 100 years old as “antique”, while those less than 100 years old can be considered “vintage”. Here, in general, I would categorize my collection by that standard as well, with certain allowances. I may have a camera whose accepted “Introduction” year is more than 100 years ago, but the “Discontinued” year is less than that. On some cameras, with general internet searches and research, I can somewhat narrow the actual production year of my particular example. However, I can’t claim a precise production year for the vast majority of my collection. Because of that, I will divide them here into “Antique” and “Vintage” based on the year the camera was introduced.
